The Sioux City Water Treatment Plant was built in 1973 and updated in 1994, with a capacity of pumping 30 million gallons per day.

The Sioux City Wastewater Treatment Plant was built in 1961 and upgraded in 1978. The plant was designed to handle 30 million gallons per day of flow; 92,000 pounds of total suspended solids (TSS); and 12,000 pounds of biological oxygen demand (BOD) per day.

The Sioux City landfill was built in 1978 with a 20 year life expectancy. The landfill received approval for expansion which will bring its life expectancy to the year 2005. At that time the city of Sioux City plans to build a new landfill east of the current landfill which will have approximately a 30 year life span. The estimated years are calculated on a 70,000 ton per year loading.

The Sioux City Regional Recycling Center was completed in November 1994, and is currently accepting white office paper, newspaper, corrugated cardboard, and #1 and #2 plastics.
