Siouxland Chamber of Commerce - 2008 Federal Issues Survey

The Siouxland Chamber of Commerce's Washington Conference has proven successful. Key successes as a result of the Washington Conference include: Border Trucking Agreement, Sergeant Bluff/Airport Overpass, Inclusion of Union County in the Sioux City MSA, Hoeven Corridor, Tech Spec Building in South Sioux City, Flynn Business Park in North Sioux City, Support for the 185th Air National Guard, Perry Creek Greenway, and the FDA Inspection of Gelatin Plants in India. The Siouxland Chamber of Commerce is now identifying key issues and priorities for the 2008 Washington Conference and would like your input.

Small businesses should be allowed to pool their employees under one entity in order to negotiate lower insurance rates.

The across-the-board tax cuts enacted in 2001 should be made permanent.

The estate/death tax should be repealed permanently.

The Alternative Minimum Tax (AMT) should be eliminated.

U.S. Highway 20 should be completed as a four-lane highway.

Nebraska Highway 35 should be completed as a four-lane highway.

Sioux City should be maintained as a river port, allowing a full nine-month navigation season and recreational use.

Payroll taxes should not be increased to pay for the Social Security system.
